Building a House for Annah

One of our Bakhita Outreach families is in urgent need of safe, secure housing. Annah and her children—Ngwakwana, Tumelo, and Selaelo—have been living in a structure that has simply reached the end of its life. Annah is facing significant physical and mental challenges, yet she continues to care for her children with quiet courage and a mother’s fierce love.
For the past year, our Outreach Team has been assisting this family, delivering food, school supplies, and water—small supports that help lighten the load. Just last week, we brought beautiful gift bags so lovingly prepared by kind friends at home.

And then came a moment of grace.
Thanks to an extraordinarily generous donation designated for improving housing conditions, Annah and her children will soon have a brand‑new house—a place where they can feel safe and sheltered. It will be a simple two-room structure as most of the houses are, but it will be sturdy and have nice windows and doors. It will be plastered and painted and have a bit of a front porch (referred to as a veranda in this part of the world). The house will be wired for electricity, and we'll get a "pay as you go" electricity box put on her house. That's the standard for village residents.
Before construction could begin, there were a few important steps. First, we met with village authorities to confirm that the site for the new house was properly assigned to Annah. Their support set everything in motion.

Next, our Housing Project Team visited the site with a local builder to assess the land and begin planning.

Plans were drawn up on a patch of red dirt, reviewed, discussed—then discussed again—and finally approved.

The old house will be taken down, and the existing blocks will be reused to form the foundation of the new home. From there, construction will move quickly. In less than a month, Annah and her children will step into a safe, solid, dignified place to call their own.
This will be the third home our team has been able to build for especially deserving families—made possible entirely through the generosity of friends who believe in the dignity of every person we serve.
Annah’s new house will be similar to one we completed just a few weeks ago. We know she and her children will be deeply grateful.
