One of our greatest joys each year is our first big gathering of the Bakhita girls and the Sacred Heart Sisters who care for them. This year’s celebration was every bit as meaningful as we hoped.
Celebrating Our 2025 Graduates
We began the day with our twelve girls who completed grade 12 in 2025. They’re now discerning their next steps—some applying to universities, others exploring technical colleges. The process can feel overwhelming, so we brought them together for a small workshop.
Several older Bakhita girls who are already in university joined us to share their experiences and answer questions. Watching them encourage one another, laugh together, and speak honestly about their journeys was a delight.

A Joyful Reunion for All the Girls
Soon after, we welcomed the younger Bakhita girls for a full family reunion. This year’s surprise was the stunning St. Josephine Bakhita icon given to us by artist Mary Elizabeth Huber. The girls were visibly moved—surprised, delighted, and awed by both the beauty of the artwork and Mary’s generosity. St. Josephine Bakhita remains a powerful reminder to stay hopeful, courageous, and kind.

Gift Bags and Big Smiles
By this point, anticipation for the gift bags was building. As always, we had a little fun with them, saying, “We weren’t able to bring the gifts this year, but everyone is wishing you well!” Their reactions never disappoint.
The gifts were received with joy and gratitude. Hoodies and beanie hats were instant favorites, and the earrings and lip gloss brought untold joy. To our generous team of bag preparers back home—you truly made the day.

How sweet!😍
