Gift Giving Day 2017

The girls have been waiting patiently for us to declare that it was finally the day for giving out the gift bags that they, of course, knew we had brought with us from the United States. We all gathered together – the girls, the caregivers and Sr. Clothilde – and we began with a prayer and a song. We told the girls about all the kind and caring people who had lovingly and carefully provided and prepared their gifts. They gave you all some great applause!

The anticipation grew as we gave a gift to their caregiver Dinah. She was thrilled with the lovely wrap brought from the USA. Doesn’t she look lovely?

Next came the older girls, who are in grades 8 – 12. Each gift bag contained a t-shirt, camisole, book, lip balm, pen and socks . . . and also a small amount of pocket money to be used to make a phone call or buy a cold drink from the school store. Actual cash is something that these girls rarely have available.

Now it finally came time for the Bakhita girls to receive their gifts. They each came up for a photo and after all had been given out, the girls got the nod from Sr. Clothilde to open their bags. It was great fun to see their faces.

Soon after, the trying on of the dresses and shoes began. It’s always a fun-filled exciting time.

It was a very happy day for all! Thank you to all the wonderful donors who made it possible!
